Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Fiance question on assets

I live with my fiance in California, his ex-girlfriend and 3 year old daughter live in Texas. They are currently working out child support/visitation. Once we are married, can any of my income or assets be used in the calculations? I also own my condo, after I sell the proceeds will be put into a cd until we buy another house. Will the ex-girlfriend have any legal rights to that money? We currently have a joint account that our paychecks go into - bills come out of as well as 2 separate discretionary accounts. What do I need to do to protect my assets?

You need to consult with an attorney and make sure that you are doing everything properly!

I recommend not having any joint bank accounts or anything joint.

Keep your separate property -- separate!

Since you don't want her to have access to your information, you need to be diligent in keeping your financial information separate and apart for his.
