my ex fiance is threatening to expose secrets to ruin my chances in an ongoing custody battle unless i pay him back money and jewelry he gave me while together

Talk to your lawyer about this. The lawyer may be able to send him a cease and desist letter. Any gifts he gave you while together are just that - gifts - and they do not have to be returned.
