Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

can i file for custody of my daughter who lives or do i have to have a lawyer she lives with her mother but due to drugs with the stepfather and emotional abuse i need to get her out the home can i file this on my own she has custody and i have weekend visitation i pay child support and insurance always have and am current

Yes, you can file a motion for modification without a lawyer. However, it's a bit like doing your own surgery. You're going to be much better off if you hire a lawyer.

You'll spend a lot of time at the courthouse, being sent from one place to another, being told that the paperwork you've brought isn't right, being told that there's something you should have already done that it's too late to do it now. There's a reason that lawyers are so expensive: they're worth it.

I agree with Mark.

I assume that I could do my own root canal work but I go to a competent dentist. Likewise, I suggest that you hire a trained family law attorney to assist you through the court system.

My plumber agreed not to practice family law and I agreed not to practice plumbing. He likes people that try to do their own plumbing work. I find that people that try to do their own lawyering make a real mess of things!

Run (don't walk) to an experienced family law attorney.
