Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

How to file for divorce in Harris County, Texas

How exactly do I go about filing for divorce? I know my wife agrees to divorce too (no kids or property), but she is not being civil toward me at all. We currently maintain separate residences.

I went to the local county courthouse and was told that divorce is done in downtown (I guess the District County Clerk's office). But even they don't offer blank forms. I was told I had to download them online or get an attorney.

I think hiring an attorney would be a waste of money since there are no kids/property.

How do I do it myself? Where do I get the ''Original Petition for Divorce'' from? What else do I need to file with it?

Ah, that is the problem. You have the right to do it yourself, but is difficult to do without the knowledge. You can retain an attorney to properly prepare the pleadings and orders for an uncontested divorce, or you can go to the courthouse law library and review the proceedings and prepare this yourself.

A forum such as this, cannot teach you to practice law.

Not everything is do-it-yourself. There are some areas where knowledge and experience are everything.

An attorney who will do a flat fee uncontested divorce (no children and no property) is almost always a better deal than the forms you can download which, no matter what they say, may not even apply to Texas law.
