Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

final divorce decree

I have been trying to get my soon to be ex husband to sign the final paperwork on our divorce for some time now. He continues to drag his feet until I have finally received a final DWOP from the court. I do not have the money for an attorney and I have searched the internet for a copy of a final decree, but he does not like the ones that I have printed. Is there another website that anyone knows about with free forms? Is there anything I can file so that I can ask the court for more time.

You can go to the Harris County Law Library downtown in the Jury Assembly Room and look in the Texas Family Practice Manual for Sample Forms. They are located on Congress and Fannin across the street from the Family Court Bldg.

You can also try Lone Star Legal Aide or Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program at 713-228-0732.

You might also go by the Court and talk to the clerk and see if they can help you.

I don't know of any website that provides Texas appropriate forms for free. (Don't bother trying to use a form from another state -- it is probably a waste of paper and time.)

I would strongly encourage you to hire an attorney to get this done properly.

If you have not properly served him, the court is probably going to dismiss this case and you've wasted your filing fee.
