Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
can't find deadbeat father
Hi,my fiance and her ex-husband have a court order for child support and the attorney general cannot find him. He makes it really hard. He jumps from job to job and he does not prvide accurate addresses or telephone numbers. Why can't the attorney generals office just suspend his license or something? How can we go about finding him and what if we never find him. we live in houston and he lives in san antonio. I should mention that he is almost a year behind on his child support and he doesn't enforce his visitation either. can we get his rights terminated and can I adopt her son before we get married and if we can can we get the fathers name taken off the birthcertificate and put my name on there? Your help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Re: can't find deadbeat father
If you want to adopt the child, then get married and wait one year.
In the meantime, don't do anything. If the father pays child support or visits the kid, then the courts are usually less likely to terminate his rights.
What you want is a termination and a step-parent adoption. It's actually 2 lawsuits "combined". It's not difficult but I urge you to retain a family law attorney that's done it before.
I urge you to retain an attorney and not try to do it on your own.
Good luck!
