Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Finding out if you are divorced

I have not seen my husband in over 15 years and for the first time I would like to remarry. Untill now I have not felt the need to divorce, after this amount of time I have no idea where to find him. How might I find out if he has divorced me and save myself the trouble if possible?

sincerely,

Teresa

Re: Finding out if you are divorced

You could make a public record search such as those offered for sale on the internet. They cover a great deal of the country, but not all. The search would have to be made in every county of every state since you have no idea where he is. Of course, if you don't find anything, you will have to file a divorce suit anyway and serve him by publication. This is more expensive than a normal divorce suit because of the advertising required and the necessity to pay for an attorney ad litem for him since he can't be found.
