Re: firearm ownership

If the assault is in fact against a family member [domestic violence] and that determination is filed in the national register, then yes, that person is also a prohibited person when it comes to the ownership of firearms and ammunition.

A conviction for simple assault against a non-family member does not result in the same loss of right to possess a dangerous weapon, providing it is not a felony.

All felonies result in the loss of the right to possess a firearm, but not all assaults do likewise.
