can my family/divorce attorney drop/fire me?

Yes. There are numerous reasons for an attorney to withdraw -- non-payment for services, refusing the cooperate with the attorney, treating the attorney's staff rudely, asking the attorney to do something illegal or unethical, telling the attorney you intend to lie to the Judge while under oath just to name a few.
