I forgot to give a written notice as it is stated in the order, ex stated she will give me the default date as a result for the summer visitation. Is this written notice really require and can it be just any letter

Yes, written notice is required to ensure your election for summer visitation can be protected. You need to provide notice in the form and manner described in the divorce decree and if no specific form or manner is provided then in a manner that would ordinarily give notice to the other parent. If you failed to give notice by the deadline then you are either stuck following the provisions in the decree for summer visitation or trying to work something out with the other parent.
