My friend is incarcerated and trying to get a divorce. Can his power of attorney appear for him in court since he is not able to attend?

No, but there are other ways that he can get divorced.

He would have to testify (at the final hearing) via an affidavit - or his wife could do the prove-up for him, if they're agreeing to everything.
