Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Gender Bias in Child Support Enforcement

My ex now owes me in excess of $26,000 in child support arrearage. Texas OAG is handling case. She will NOT work. She is claiming disability (she is not) and has been asked to produce nothing to prove so. The court is waiting to see if Social Security will okay disability for her. That could take years. In the meantime, she has been found in contempt, placed under community supervision (1x weekly) and ordered to pay me $25 a month in child support. Everything is reset for 4/19/03. It will take 87 years for her to pay me at that rate. I have watched that same judge put men in jail who owed far less than she does. I want to represent myself - I really don't have the money to pay an attorney. I can't trust the OAG to do their job right. Any advice?????

Thanks,

fred

Re: Gender Bias in Child Support Enforcement

The Texas AG does not represent you or your spouse. They the interests of the State of Texas.

I would strongly urge you to hire an attorney.

If you want to represent yourself, you need to go to a law library and do research on questioning witnesses, how to submit evidence, etc. The Harris Co law library is at the corner of San Jancinto and Fannin -- in the jury assembly building.

You also need to read the Texas Family Code so that you know the law of the State of Texas.

My office would charge a deposit of $990 then weekly payments of $125/week for a case like yours.

If you call my office be sure to mention that I responded to your email on lawguru.com.

Good luck!
