Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

gifts and divorce

In Texas, if your mother gave you something 15 years ago and you are presently getting a divorce, is the gift considered community property or not? If so what is the time allotted to become community property? Thank you for your help.

Are gifts community property

Your separate property includes things which were acquired before the marriage or during the marriage by inheritance or by gift. Therefore, a gift from your mother is your separate property, but you must be able to PROVE that it was a gift, and you must do so by clear and convincing evidence.
