You need to make sure that there is a legal parent-child relationship established between you and the child. That may or may not have occurred at the time of the birth, depending upon whether an Acknowledgement of Paternity was signed and filed of record with the Department of Health in Austin. Just being listed as the father on the birth certificate does not, in and of itself, create the parent-child relationship. I am a board certified specialist in the field of family law, practicing in the general Houston area. I would be glad to discuss your options if you would contact me directly.
