Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Do I give up guardianship?

I am thinking of letting my 13 yr old daughter move to Texas with close friends of the family for the school year. I am a widow and have sole custody. What, if any, papers do I need to sign for them to get her in school, medical treatment, etc? Are there any other legal issues I should consider?

Re: Do I give up guardianship?

I would find out what the requirements are in Texas. I would suspect that at the very least you would want to do is to provide your friends with a Medical Power of Attorney. I would check with the school system in Texas because some areas require custody papers in order to enroll the child in school. If you are going to do custody papers, I would highly suggest that you speak with an attorney.

An instrument known as a temporary voluntary entrustment should suffice for the purposes which

you've mentioned.
