give up rights to child to grandmother

My wife and i got married back in 2001...since then we have our own home and her son is living with her mom.....we have always provide for him financially but now her mom his filed for custody for her son because her son does not want to live with us ever.....if my wife gives up her rights to her son does she still need to pay child support or provide medical insurance?

It depends on the facts of the situation and what the court thinks is in the best interests of the child.

Generally, the Courts are not gong to let your wife give up her rights unless the grandmother is adopting the boy. My guess is your wife is still going to have to pay support and provide medical insurance. Where is the father? He should be supporting the boy, too.
