Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Good Afternoon,

I was wondering if you could tell me if in the State of Texas if the payment for College Expenses is completely voluntary or if it is dependent on your decree. I have a son entering college this next Fall and his father has offered to pay 1/2 of expenses. In my opinion, had I had the emotional sense/strength of what the years would bring, I would have definately modified the decree for specifics along with a deal of no alimony which I am sure I would have qualified for, so he'd covered college expenses on my boys, especially with his current income which he hides as my decree didn't even have a living expense increase mentioned within it, but I beleive I can follow up with the Texas AG Child Support Division to request an increase.

Please let me know anything regarding this or if you could tell me where to look, that would also be appreciated. Will try Texas Family Law, but I ran across your email address and recalled reading a review of your work.

Kind Regards,

Kathryn Corkren

College students are adults, and it is assumed that adults support themselves.

Some parents are kind enough to help their children with college expenses. It's voluntary.

Occasionally, divorcing parents will have an agreed decree that provides that they will contribute to college expenses. I've done only one such decree in 25 years.
