Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

good afternoon/evening,i was given divorce papers to sign by my spouse,but at the top of the page it has a warning,that if i do sign,i will waive all my legal rights,so of course i didnt sign anything,it states that i may file an answer instead. what is this? i am located in texas.

They sent you a waiver of service. It sounds like a nasty one. Don't sign it. Just file an original answer with the court. You will need an attorney to get through a divorce properly. And if you can point to where the money would come from (e.g. a savings account, etc.), you can get the court to order your spouse to pay your legal fees if you don't have the money to do so.

You should at least invest in a consultation with a local family law attorney. The consultation might cost you $300 or so, but you can get an exact road map for how to handle your case and you can get an original answer drawn up for you, essentially for free in most cases.
