I have a mother inlaw that has a mental disability, and i can't trust her with the care of my children. How can i protect my children from being subjected to that type of surrounding?

Re: grandparents rights

Are you married to her son/daughter? If so, talk to your spouse and make him/her understand that they need to be supervised when around grandma. Be a parent.

If not you are not married, then hire a lawyer to modify the current order, requesting that the grandmother be supervised when with your children. It is probably an issue that can be resolved through conversation and/or mediation.

If you are married, talk to your husband.

He needs to be a man and protect his children!

If you cannot agree, then I would strongly encourage you to go to marriage counseling in order to develop better communication skills in your relationship.

I believe that one of the priorities of being a parent is to be fearless when it comes to protecting your children from possible harm!

Get tough, get strong and act like a lioness -- a lioness protects her cubs from any harm -- even if it endangers her own life!

If you cannot do so, you have much more serious problems than can be addressed in an eamil.

Also grandparents have very limited rights in Texas if their children are alive and not in prison.
