Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
grandparents' rights
My son is in the military and had a daughter, now 2, out of wedlock. When he discovered his paternity, he began paying child support. The child stayed with me, her grandmother, 2/3 of the time last year. Now she has a boyfriend who is supporting her and we are seeing the child every other weekend. No joint custody papers have been drawn up. If she should leave the state, would my son have any say in whether he would like her to remain in the area of his parents. Do I have any rights since I kept her 253 days out of 365 last year?

Re: grandparents' rights
Your son really needs to formally establish paternity and child support. It's great his taking care of his child, but informal payments are not always credited against support obligations. A formal order will also let him ask for a geographic restriction. As for your rights or lack thereof, that depends on a number of things.
