Since the U.S. Supreme Court decided Troxel v. Granville in 2000, grandparent rights have been severly set back.

Simply stated, if the parent of the child does not want to allow such visitation, a grandparent must be able to prove that denial of grandparent visitation would "significantly impair the child's physical health or emotional well being." See Texas Family Code Section 153.433.
