Guardianship is a legal process that does not readily lend itself to self-representation. The probate court will appoint a lawyer to represent the girl, but the parents need to hire a lawyer to process it. They should contact the state and local bar associations for referrals to attorneys that will work with them on the costs. They may also qualify for Legal Aid, especially if she is on SSI.
