Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I have a hearing Wednesday morning at 8:30 downtown at the Family Courthouse. I need a lawyer to meet me there. Do you know when the Governor is expected to sign SB 785??? My son's father had filed a petition to terminate parent-child relationship in February 2010 the case was dismissed on February 22, 2011 and his attorney filed a motion to reinstate on March 18, 2011. Apparently there was a hearing scheduled for April 12, 2011 which I didn't receive any notification about. I just received the notice for the hearing yesterday; not leaving me any time to seek an attorney or be prepared. The Motion to Reinstate hearing is Wednesday morning at 8:30 and my son's attorney also plans to present a final order for termination at the same hearing as well. Is this possible if the Governor hasn't officially signed it? My son is nine years old, his father signed an acknowledgement of paternity at the time of birth. In 2007 (5 years later) he had a mouth swab (at home) DNA test performed indicating he is not the father. With the new SB 785 he is seeking to terminate the parent child relationship. He has paid child support weekly since January 2003 and the case is active with the OAG. I'm not really sure if I need an attorney or not but feel like it would be in my best interest. Please let me know if you can help and the fees involved.

SB 785 was sent to the Governor for signature on April 20, 2011. Today, the House passed a resolution recalling it from the Governor. It is not a law yet. However, it did receive enough votes in both houses to become law immediately upon signature by the governor. Either way, it doesn't sound like the facts of your case fit under SB 785.

I could meet you and help you, assuming this is in Dallas County. You can email me privately if you are interested. You would have to pay our retainer in advance, by credit card due to the fact that the hearing is tomorrow morning.
