Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My husband is extremely verbally abusive. We have 3 children together. I am strongly considering divorce. If/when I tell him I want a divorce he will try to take our oldest son. I have been told that there is nothing I can do to stop him. Is there anything I can do legally prior to informing him of a divorce to ensure he can't take off with him?

Get a lawyer today if you believe he will abscond with the children. Once a petition is filed, you can request an order/injuction restricting his conduct. All petitions are accompanied by Standing Orders which prohibit secreting the children. Before filing, you need to be prepared, both emotionally, financially and legally; and that is why you need an attorney now. Do not discuss this with him at all, or at least until you are aware of your options. Before a case is filed either/both parents have the right to leave with the children.
