Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

husband and father abandons wife and child-now 3 years
A female family member has not heard from her husband and the father of her child for 3 years now. She is a resident of texas and wants a divorce. She was told that she must get a lawyer for her missing husband;and must try to locate him. All she has found so far is a p.o. box # in N.M.; but no street address; and no telephone #. Is she really responsible for a lawyer for him; and must she locate a street address- when that is almost impossible? Any help would be appreciated so much! She is a full time student and has not much money to do these things.

What is the connection to NY?

Your relative is confused. She must have her husband served with the divorce papers, for jurisdictional and due process purposes.

She really should see an experienced matrimonial attorney to explain her rights and options.
