Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My husband just let me know that he is filing for divorce. I am a stay at home mom so I don't have a paying job or any money. The lease on our house is up at the end of April. I don't know what my next step should be. Does he have to pay for a place for my daughter and I to live? Please help me.

You need to hire an attorney in your county about your complex questions.

Unfortunately, you are going to go through a lot of changes in your life if you divorce. He cannot just abandon you and the child. But in Texas both parents are expected to support their children. So you might need to go back to work. At least begin looking for a job and then you will know how much money you can bring in each month. Depending on how long you have been married, you might be entitled to some spousal support.

In the meantime, he cannot leave you with no money. You probably need temporary orders to get child support and possibly spousal support started.
