my husband just found out he was still married to his first wife does this make our marrige void? Does he need to get a divorce from his first wife?

If your husband still is in fact married to his first wife then: Yes, he does need to get a divorce from his first wife, then re-marry you.

There are also several other "equitable" considerations at work in an instance like this (depending on the facts).
