You need to talk to an attorney in your county. You need to protect yourself and your children. A divorce with children is just not simple. You need to make sure that the children are covered by health insurance. You want your ex to carry insurance in case he dies so that you will receive insurance proceeds to guarantee that his insurance covers what he should have paid in child support. After the age of 18, college education is not ordered by the court but perhaps he will agree to carry life insurance in case he dies. I highly suggest that you talk to an attorney to help you get the best deal that you can. Perhaps you can qualify for a disproportionate share of the community estate or perhaps some spousal support. I also encourage you to mediate your divorce instead of litigating your divorce! Of course, I am a mediator.
