Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My husband has a 3 year old from a previous relationship and the mother's rights were terminated. We have been together since she was a baby. What kind of papers do we need to draw up so that in the event that something happens to him I can have custody of her and she does not go to one of his family members?

Based on what you have written, you may want to consider a step-parent adoption. If the mother's rights were terminated by court order, then this proceeding would make you the legal mother of the child. There are many aspects (legal, emotional, and psychological) associated with adopting a child. You should contact a law firm to assist you with this process to ensure that you are fully protecting your rights and interests. If we may assist you with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please contact us at (281) 994-4034 for more information.
