Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Husbands financial responsibility to support wife

We have been married for 38 years. My husband is retired. I recently ''retired'' to take care of an elderly parent and aunt in a different city. My husband refuses any monetary support and has for years. In the past, I worked to support myself and pay my own bills. Now I cannot. What options do I have to require him to support me financially. Working out of the home is not a choice as parent requires constant care. Divorce is out of the question due to Christian issues.

Unfortunately, divorce is an option. If either of you wants a divorce, the State of Texas will grant one.

Spouses have a duty to support each other.

Since you've been married over 10 years, you might be entitled to some spousal support for awhile.

You would also be entitled to 50% of all community property acquired during the marriage.

You must file divorce in order to ask for temporary spousal support.

Good luck!
