Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
My husband's son graduates high school in 2013 and turns 18 August the same year. The drecree says he's to pay child support until the boy graduates HS or turns 18 whichever is latest so he will have to pay until Aug 2013.
Is there any way his ex-wife can extend the child support payments? She's the kind of person that will if she can. If she tries to extend them what should we do? Also, what do we need to do to make sure the payments are stopped when the boy turns 18?
Side note to show you the kind of exwife we're dealing with... He has not been allowed to see his son (by his ex wife) for about 9 years now. She has completely turned the kid against him. Three years ago she and her new husband asked to meet with us at a restaurant. They told us at that time her new husband wanted to adopt the boy. They called the boy and had him talk to my husband and tell him that he didn't want to ever have anything to do with my husband and that he wanted to be adopted. My husband thought about it for several weeks and decided since she planned to never let him be a part of the kid's life he would go ahead and sign away his parental rights. He emailed his decision to her, she used the email to hurt the kid by letting him read it. Then instead of taking the steps to adopt him, they sued for more monthly child support.

You might want to read your order. Conceivably, if the child doesn't finish high school (has to "repeat" a grade), your husband might have to pay child support for some additional months.
