Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Inability to appear at a child support court date

I am in Austin Texas. I had a court date in Houston the following day. There was a extreme freeze in the state. ( Unusual for here) All of the freeways and thourough fares were shut down. There was no bus service, all city and government agencies were closed down. We didn't even recieved mail for three days. I knew that I wasn't going to be able to get to Houston so I called the court and asked them what they needed from me in writing requesting that they reset my appearance date. They said that they can't reset the date. I explained the circumstances still to no avail. They finally gave me a fax number to fax my request for a reset, but said that therewere no garuantees. I fax the request and followed up with another phone call. After about 10 days I had'nt recieved any notification of a reset date so again I called. I was informed that they had issued a warrant for my arrest and that there was a 2000.00 fine. What can I do?

You are going to need an attorney to help you arrange for the warrant to be recalled and set a new court date. You cannot be fined any amount of money until you have appeared before a judge and your case has been adjudicated. Good luck.
