my ex has just been indicted for Assualt causing bodily injury to a family member. This happened when he had our son. Is this reason to stop visitation

Possibly, but only the court can change your order. If you want to stop visits or make then be supervised, then you need to file for a modification. If you don't do that, then you could be found in contempt of court for not following the current orders.
