Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
getting information from attorney
What do you do when an attorney promises to keep you informed and continually fails to do so? They already know I am nervous and concerned and any information would be helpful. I don't want to upset them, but I am paying a lot of money and feel like I should know what is going on.

This is difficult to answer. Unfortunately, there are some attorneys out there who don't respond to their clients as quickly or as often as they should, but most work very hard to keep their clients informed and updated. If this is really a case of a true failure to keep you informed or respond to your concerns and requests for information, YOU NEED A NEW ATTORNEY.
If this is a case where you are really getting all the information but just not getting it according to your expectations, you and your attorney need to sit down and discuss expectations and communications. Your description of yourself as nervous, concerned, and paying a lot of money is very telling. This may be your first lawsuit, but odds are it isn't your attorney's first. Good luck!

I completely agree with everything Ms. Bushman said, and want to add that sometimes a client of mine will want daily updates, but not understand that that costs them money, especially when they are trying to keep a budget on the costs. It's possible that there is nothing new to report, and the attorney doesn't want to bill you for unnecessary time.
Ms. Bushman is right, you need to have a heart-to-heart talk with your lawyer.
