Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Insuring minor children

My son was incarcerated for many years and my granddaughter was being raised by her mother and stepfather and she was carried on her stepfather's health and dental insurance. As soon as my son was released from jail he began paying child support, however, his ex-wife now tells us that the child cannot be carried on her step father's policy? We have offered to pay any portion of the total monthly family premium but the mother continues to insist it is not possible...the company is UPS and I don't believe they took her off the policy the very day her father was released from prison....we have explored several options to insure her but the prices are exorbitant..can you advise me on this matter? I feel that the mother is being vindictive and using this as a tool.....We want to do the very best thing for the child...I have helped raise her all these years by supplying the mother with as much as I could monetarily and keeping my grandchild every weekend for 9 years.

Thank you for any advice.

Re: Insuring minor children

First contact HR for USPS and ask if it is possible to maintain insurance. They will not give you specific information as to an employeee, but will probably advise you generally if the carrier will continue insurance, even if under a COBRA policy.

Secondly, look at the court order regarding insurance -- it will indicate who is responsible for insurance under varying circumstances.
