Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Interstate child support

I will be relocating to Texas within the next few weeks to live with family. I was in an auto accident and am permanently, partially disabled and out of work. I currently pay support in New Jersey for an 18 year-old daughter in Illinois. In NJ you must file papers to stop support payments. Since I was moving, I delayed this as I wouldn't be available for any hearings. What must I do when I move to Texas to have these payments stopped. My Ex says she'll block any attempt for me to stop payments because our daughter is going to college. I can't afford to continue support and need help!

Re: Interstate child support

You are correct that the only way to stop or modify support is through a motion. However, it seems like New Jersey no longer should be the state governing this issue. Without more information, you might want to consider moving jurisdiction to Illinois (which requires a motion) or filing a motion to amend or terminate child support.
