Job Benefits and Dependants

My wife has a kid from a previous marriage. Currently my wife and HER kid are living with me. I am supporting both. I understand that I do not have any LEGAL obligation with her kid unless I adopt him. My job is giving me the chance to extend my medical insurance to my wife's child. Do I acquire a legal obligation for including her child as my dependant in my job?
