Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Joint Custody
My childrens dad and I have been seperated forthree years. He has always let the children know I am the one who chose to leave, therefore it's all my fault they don,t get to live with their dad. He often ask our son, who is six, if he wants to live with him, and ofcourse I'm the bad guy for saying no, you can't until you get older. He has never kept a stable household for him to live in, and he often says he can't keep them on weekends because he don't have food, money, or whatever reason. I took ous son to the Dr. because of stomach aches, and he thinks he may have an alsur. Our son stays stressed out because he wants to be with his dad, but he wants to live with me too. We have not had a court ruling giving either of us custody, thinking we could work it out between ourselves,I knoe now the only way to keep him from playing with uor son's emotions is a court settlement. I live with another man,so can that harm my chances for custody? How much child support could I receive for two children, I haven't pressed for any so far, trying to keep peace for my children. Also, is there any legal aid I might qualify to get a case started?

Re: Joint Custody
Legal aid my assist in some counties in which they have sufficient resources. Living with another person without marriage can be a touchy issue with some conservative judges, but most often they will follow the law for what is in the best interests of the child. You should get the child support you deserve for your children and get a regular visitation schedule. If the father doesn't keep the schedule, it can be modified or reduced.
