I'm in the process is divorcing my wife, we have been apart for a little over a year now, my question is...

I have been told that if you file for joint custody, that i means that I do not have to pay child support. How true is this statment?

That is an untrue statement.

It sounds like you need an attorney - there is obviously a lot you don't understand about divorce and child custody in the Texas legal system.
