Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
My ex and I are Joint Managing Conservators of our 15 yr old. Our current order states "Reasonable and necessary health-care expenses not paid by insurance and incurred by or on behalf of a child" include, without limitation, any copayments for office visits or prescription drugs, the yearly deductible, if any, and medical, surgical, prescription drug, mental health-care services, dental, eye care, ophthalmological, and orthodontic charges." My ex keeps taking our daughter to the Dermatologist for acne (which she doesn't need) and saying that I have to pay for half. I just need to know if I am obligated to pay half of the Dermatologist, especially since she didn't even discuss this with me prior to taking our daughter?? (we have 50/50 custody). And what can happen if I don't pay? Thanks

You can call and talk to the dermatologist about what is going on.
And yes most judges will make you pay your 50% since it is a legitimate doctor.
If she takes you to court for non-payment, you can be ordered (in addition to the unpaid medical bills) to pay her attorney's fees. I suspect they will be a lot more than 50% of a doctor's visit. Plus, you could go to jail - read your decree about all the "nasty" things that could happen to you if you violate the court's orders It should be in there in BOLD & ALL CAPS.
