Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I left my husband in December because he would not help me pay all the debt we were in over 45 grand everything of cource was in my name and I guess he felt it was not his problem it was mine . I had to file backrupsy in Feb because I do not make enough money to raise are son and pay off all that debt. he just hit me with divorce papers the other day , I can not afford a lawyer at this time so do I have to sign for the divorce or can I put it off for now. can they put me in jail if I do not sign or show up in court.

Do not ignore this paperwork, or your problems could easily get worse. You need an answer filed on your behalf. That debt, if acquired during the marriage, is community debt and would not be solely your responsibility. If your son is still a minor and in school, he needs to pay child support. You may be entitled to spousal support under some circumstances. Keep looking for a lawyer, as it could be far more expensive than without one. You won't go to jail unless you violate a court order. You need to appear at the hearing, preferably with a lawyer. Not dealing with the divorce could result in him getting everything he wants, and leaving you with all the debts.
