Is it legal for a court to order no contact between a legally married couple, in a case where they maintain separate households, 1 child is involved (12 years of age) and no divorce proceeding has been initiated?

Without more info it's almost impossible to answer.

If a restraining order or a protective order was issued, then it is legal for a court to order "no contact".
