Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Legal Guardianship

My daughter just gave birth to a boy without a father. I want to assume legal guardianship of my grandson so that I may include him as a dependent in my employer provided health insurance. What do I need to do?

Re: Legal Guardianship

I doubt that you want "guardianship" since that is an expensive procedure that requires you to provide the court with regular reports.

I suspect what you want is "custody" of the child.

Custody and guardianship are totally different legal concepts in Texas.

I urge you to talk to a TX family law attorney in your area.

If it's agreed it's not expensive. Of course, the father needs to be notified even if they aren't married.
