Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Legal Guardianship & Medical Insurance

Our 17 year-old unmarried daughter will have a child in 4-5 months. My medical insurance through my employer will cover her (until age 23 or married) but not the baby. My employer sent me a ''Statement of Responsibility'' which basically says I must be my unborn grandson's Legal Guardian for him to be covered. What is the process/cost? What happens if and when my daughter either marries or is able to support herself and the baby?

Without all the information, it would seem that filing a suit affecting the parent-child relationship (SAPCR) requesting that you be named the child's primary managing conservator could satisfy your employer's needs. Costs are determined by the amount of time involved, whether any disputes arise during the process, etc. and all the filing fees.

I believe that your daughter can declare you a Guardian of the Person of your granddaughter in Probate Court, thus enabling your health insurance to cover her. You need a Probate attorney to help with this.
