Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Legal Guardianship
I have been, for the past four years, a mentor for a child who is now 15 years old and lives in Texas. His parents are divorced and his mother is constantly abusing him verbally. She is a drunk at night and has been known to go into fits of rage so bad that he calls and just wants someone to take him away. She has been threatening to live with his father, who is a deadbeat and would (in his mother's words) ''destroy him (the minor). He has expressed a profound desire to leave home and come live with me until he's 18. I would be able to financially support him and give him a good loving home and treat him like a son. What steps can he/I take to transfer legal guardianship from his mother to me?

Re: Legal Guardianship
If you have documents and witness testimony to corroborate what you say about his environment, I think he could "divorce" his parents in a manner of speaking. First, you could apply to be the child's guardian; then, you could file a Suit Affecting the Parent Child Relationship for custody and require the parents to pay child support to you. Good Luck.
