Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Do I have any legal right to the home?
My tenure as a legal assistant is 15 years in the field of commercial collections. I basically have no knowledge of family law and am too embarrassed to even ask my employer. My boyfriend and I bought a mobile home and land together about 4 years ago, 1 year after we met. We put it all in his name to establish good credit for him, besides the fact that they wouldn't do it in both of our names because we were not married. I suffer a tremendous amount of physical and emotional abuse and need to get out. Do I legally have any right to the home at all? I do I just give it up and go forward? Please help.

Re: Do I have any legal right to the home?
From your question, I will presume that you do not consider yourself married. If that is the case, then this is not a Family law issue but a contract question. The issue will focus on whether the funds you put into the land was a gift or a loan. As the other response indicated, this is a tough one. Final problem could arise in collection of a judgment even if you were able to prove your claim. Good luck.

You would have a quasi-contractual claim for your contributions to the payment of the home. These claims are complex and lengthy to pursue. Good Luck.
