Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Legal Lastname Change of a Minor

I am the mother of twin boys, at the the time of birth the father was not known. The boys were named with the last name of the mother. The father did sign the acknowledgement of paternity and had his named added to the birth cert. And then we filled for child support, I was not for having the names changed then either. With all those legal items in place how can I have the last names changed to the fathers. I was told that I had to get an attorney.

Re: Legal Lastname Change of a Minor

If the parties are in agreement, then it is a fairly straightforward process to have a minor name change. The attorney fees should be reasonable. The Petition is filed, parties are noticed (or waived if in agreement); and if agreed, the order is submitted to the court. If not in agreement, then a hearing is held.
