Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

is it legal to have two marriage certificates from two different states? same spouse!

I can only speak for Texas. It is certainly odd, and would be difficult to explain how or why it happened. Without researching it, it seems that the first marriage certificate, legally done, would be the valid document, and the second one was merely superfluous.
