can i file for bankrupcy while legally separated without hurting my spouses credit?

Texas does not have legal separation.

Since Texas has no legal separation, the simple answer is, no. You do not have to file for Bankruptcy jointly even if you are married, but as to whether or not it will effect his credit, there is no way to answer that based on the information you have provided.
