Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

liability of marrying someone with credit debt

I have a credit debt that has gone to arbitration and which I cannot currently pay off.

If my fiance marries me, will he incur liability for this (or any other debt) that I incurred prior to the marraige? And, vice versa?!

Thanks for your help,

Re: liability of marrying someone with credit debt

I do not know of any reason why your fiance would be responsible for a debt you incurred before marriage unless he guaranteed the debt (co-signed)or otherwise legally agreed to pay the debt himself. The reverse also would be true.
